AMERICAN RIVER NATURAL HISTORY ASSOCIATION (ARNHA)
SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY
June 4, 2026
Purpose
The American River Natural History Association (ARNHA) uses social media to share information about the Effie Yeaw Nature Center (EYNC), promote programs and events, support environmental education, encourage community engagement, and foster meaningful conversations about nature, stewardship, and conservation.
This policy establishes guidelines for the management of ARNHA-owned social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.
Scope
This policy applies to all ARNHA-operated social media accounts and to staff, volunteers, contractors, and board members authorized to post content or moderate discussions on behalf of ARNHA.
Community Participation
ARNHA welcomes comments, questions, feedback, and discussion from the public.
Constructive disagreement, criticism, and differing viewpoints are welcome and will not be removed simply because they express opinions that differ from those of ARNHA, EYNC, staff, volunteers, board members, or supporters.
Comment Moderation
ARNHA reserves the right to hide, remove, or restrict access to content that violates these guidelines.
Content may be hidden or removed if it contains threats, harassment, bullying, personal attacks, or intimidation; contains hate speech or discriminatory language based on race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, disability, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or other protected status; contains obscene, sexually explicit, or graphic content; promotes illegal activity; encourages unsafe behavior toward wildlife, visitors, volunteers, staff, or facilities; encourages activities that violate Nature Center, County, or park rules; includes personal, confidential, or private information about another individual; violates copyright, trademark, or intellectual property rights; constitutes spam, commercial advertising, or repetitive promotional content; contains malware, phishing links, or other malicious content; impersonates another individual or organization; repeatedly disrupts conversations through excessive posting or intentionally inflammatory behavior; or contains knowingly false information that could create confusion regarding Nature Center operations, visitor safety, wildlife management, educational programs, or emergency conditions.
Moderation Actions
ARNHA may take one or more of the following actions: leave content visible, respond with clarifying information, hide content, remove content, temporarily restrict or block a user, or permanently block a user for repeated or severe violations.
Whenever practical, ARNHA will use the least restrictive moderation action necessary to address a violation.
User Restrictions
Users who repeatedly violate this policy may be temporarily or permanently restricted from participating on ARNHA social media platforms.
Severe violations involving threats, harassment, hate speech, impersonation, or safety concerns may result in immediate restriction without warning.
Documentation
ARNHA will maintain records of content hidden, removed, or resulting in user restrictions.
Documentation may include screenshots, dates, platform information, reasons for action, and the name of the moderator making the decision.
Appeals
Individuals who believe their content was moderated in error may contact ARNHA at info@sacnaturecenter.net. The Executive Director or designee will review the request and provide a response within a reasonable timeframe.
Administration
Only authorized staff and volunteers may administer ARNHA social media accounts. Final authority regarding the interpretation of this policy and moderation decisions rests with the Executive Director or designee.
