Learning to Be Astonished: Nature Writing Across America

Lecture: Friday, January 24th from 6:30pm – 8pm

Field Study: Saturday, January 25th from 11am – 12:30pm

 

Program Description: On the first day of this two-part series, we will explore the world of nature by way of the written word, seeing how our feelings and beliefs about nature have reflected and shaped by authors from the 1700’s to today. A reading list will be provided! On the second day, we will gather at the nature center and do some writing of our own. Brave volunteers may read their work to the group at the end of the session for feedback. Bring a notebook and pen.

 

Speaker Biography: Carrie Sessarego is a former Effie Yeaw Nature Center staff member and a certified California Naturalist. She is also a freelance writer. Carrie leads Effie Yeaw Nature Center’s Under the Oaks Book Club and co-facilitates Sacramento Public Library’s Romance Book Club.
